Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves has reportedly agreed to a two-year, $8.5 million contract extension to remain with the franchise.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the agreement includes a player option for the second season. Reaves was set to become a restricted free agent this summer. The extension keeps him with the Lakers through the 2024-25 season.

Reaves has emerged as a valuable asset to the Lakers since joining the team in 2021. Known for his hustle, energy, and shooting ability, the 24-year-old has become a fan favorite and a key contributor off the bench.

With Reaves now signed long-term, the Lakers have solidified their backcourt for the foreseeable future. Alongside Anthony Davis, LeBron James, and Russell Westbrook, Reaves provides another reliable scoring option and perimeter defender.

"I'm thrilled to be able to stay in Los Angeles and continue my career with the Lakers," Reaves said in a statement. "This franchise has such a rich history, and I'm proud to be a part of it."

"Austin is a hard worker and a great teammate," said Lakers Vice President of Basketball Operations Rob Pelinka. "We're excited to have him in our plans for the future."

Reaves' extension is a sign of the Lakers' commitment to their young talent. With a core of promising players, the franchise is hoping to build upon their recent success and contend for championships in the years to come.
