Mikaela Shiffrin Crashes In Final Run Of Giant Slalom

Mikaela Shiffrin wins giant slalom for 2nd career Olympic gold | The

Shiffrin was skiing aggressively in the second run of the Giant Slalom when she lost her balance and fell. The crash happened shortly after the halfway point of the course, and Shiffrin was unable to recover.

"I felt good about my skiing, and I was pushing hard," said Shiffrin after the crash. "But I just caught an edge and went down. It's a tough break, but that's racing."

Shiffrin's crash was a major disappointment for the United States team, which had hoped for a strong performance from her in the Giant Slalom. The American team had already won a gold medal in the men's Giant Slalom, and they were hoping to add to their medal count with Shiffrin.

"Mikaela is our best skier, and we were really counting on her to perform well today," said US Ski Team head coach Mike Day. "But that's the nature of racing. Anything can happen."

Despite the disappointing end to her Giant Slalom campaign, Shiffrin is still a favorite to win multiple medals at the World Championships. She will compete in the Slalom and Super-G events later this week.

"I'm not going to let this crash get me down," said Shiffrin. "I'm still confident in my skiing, and I'm going to come back stronger in the next event."
